Domain memorial plans reach resource consent 2

Plans for a new First World War memorial to peace at Auckland Domain have reached the resource consent stage.

Te Takuahi – The Hearth will honour those who remained at home and the effect of war on our region.

Councillor Christine Fletcher, who chairs a mayoral advisory group overseeing the memorial, says, “Te Takuahi is a memorial to the importance of peace. It acknowledges the loss felt by those who saw loved ones off to war and commemorates the Aucklanders who kept the home fires burning.”

Te Takuahi is designed by Wraight Athfield Landscape + Architecture in collaboration with artist Ross Hemera.

It is expected to be complete in time for peace commemorations in mid-2019.
