Almost 5000 addresses are about to receive an invitation to participate in the Waiheke Community Survey.
Over the next three years, Waiheke Local Board, Auckland Council and Auckland Transport will be working together to explore ways to give the board more power over decisions that affect the island.
As part of that process, the board needs to know how well – or badly – residents think things are now.
Incoming board chair Cath Handley says it’s critical that organisations know where they are starting from.
“It’s no secret many people are disgruntled with aspects of our performance. The survey will give us a starting point so we can understand where our focus needs to be.”
Outgoing chair Paul Walden says the board, council and Auckland Transport coming together to work out ways islanders can have more say over their affairs has to be a good thing.
How to submit your feedback
The survey focuses on what residents think the biggest issues are for Waiheke, and how well they think the board, council and Auckland Transport are doing.
The survey only takes 10 minutes and can be accessed online by typing bit.ly/waiheke2018 into your web browser.
“We know some people prefer pen and paper, so there are copies available at the council service centre at Belgium Street and at the Waiheke Library at Ocean View Rd,” Handley says. “Library staff are happy to help anyone complete the survey online if they want to.”

A second survey will be conducted next year to ascertain if residents think the move by the three organisations is improving the on-island situation.
The letter is confined to residential addresses on the island and the same methodology will be used in 2019 so the comparison is robust.
The survey is separate from work on a sustainable tourism strategy.
