Community zero-waste leaders recognised

Auckland community members leading the way to zero-waste were recognised at the Auckland Community Zero Waste Hui & Awards last week.

Hosted by EcoMatters Environment Trust, this annual event selects leaders in seven categories:

  • Trailblazer – recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond in demonstrating their commitment to zero-waste
  • Power of the people – for a group or community organisation
  • Leaders in the making – recognises young people who have helped lead the way to a zero-waste world
  • Fair on all fronts – for organisations that have used their zero-waste efforts to influence social, environmental or economic improvements
  • Re-imagining the resource – recognises upcycled products
  • Shining Star Award – for outstanding community impact

More than 90 community members were nominated for the awards, some as young as 8 years old.

The event was held at Zeal West in Henderson.

The Auckland Community Zero Waste Hui & Awards were hosted by EcoMatters Environment Trust and the Auckland Guardians Group with support from Auckland Council.
