New Manurewa toilets reveal railway history

Manurewa's historical convenience

Commuters needing a pit stop at Manurewa train station will not only get some relief - but a little insight into local history.

When a new toilet block was installed at the station last year, Manurewa Local Board wanted to continue its efforts to spruce up public facilities throughout the town centre and decided to add a special film on the outside of the structure.

In this case, it features heritage images of the station and rail activity from days gone by.

The photos sourced were sourced by board members Joseph Allan and Stella Cattle, with support from research team leader at Auckland Libraries’ Bruce Ringer and the Manurewa Historical Society.

The project, which will also see an image wrap adorning the toilet block near the Northcrest shops in the future, was funded by the local board’s transport capital fund.
