Peter Orwin will be able to go to the Waiau Pa Hop after the Franklin Local Board granted organisers $4000 towards the event.

Applications for Franklin Local Board grants were unprecedented this year with a huge amount of applications being received. In the September round, $45,774 was allocated to a variety of successful applicants.

Of those accepted, two received the full amount sought, Auckland Area Showjumping’s $1800 for ambulance costs for its Franklin A and P Showgrounds event, and the Waiuku Museum Society $2978 for lighting for the main building.

The successful applicants were:

  • Pukekohe Performing Arts, $7175, Harrington Theatre repairs
  • Puni School PTA, $4485 for Multicultural Festival stage hire
  • Glenbrook Vintage Railway, $4125 for extension project costs
  • Beachlands Community Trust, $3667 Christmas at Sunkist traffic management
  • Beachlands Maraetai Whitford Community Family Fun Day, $396, ambulance
  • Life Education, $500 for resources for Pukeoware School programme
  • Beachlands Community Trust, $1850 for sewing machines and overlockers
  • Pukekohe Lions, $3530 for Christmas Parade traffic management

  • Waiuku Lions, $2300 Sand to Mud Fun Run traffic management
  • Pukekohe Tramping Club, $3984 for Five Summits project maps
  • Waiuku Business Association, $3577 for Christmas Parade traffic management.

The board also agreed to a $2000 contribution towards YMCA North’s Manukau Intermediate sports camp, and $3000 for Counties Manukau Sport’s awards. Both grants are part of the multi-board applications, where organisations can apply to more than one local board.

Nineteen groups were declined, mainly because of the sheer number of applicants or the projects priority in comparison to others.

The next round of funding is the board’s Quick Response Grants opening on 7 October and closing on 1 November.  The grants are for sums from $200-$2000, details can be found on the Auckland Council site.
