Updated 11am Thursday 24 October.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand advises that fire at the New Zealand International Convention Centre on Hobson Street is under control and less visible today, and that firefighters are still dampening hot spots to prevent any flare ups.

People living or working near the convention centre should still take precautionary measures to avoid breathing in the smoke.

See here for ongoing updates on the situation in Auckland's city centre.
