Piri, one of Auckland Council's biosecurity dogs, has given birth to seven happy, healthy puppies.
Well here they are - the moment I’ve been anticipating for the last two months. They have arrived! More than I expected too.
In the early hours of this morning my seven bundles of joy arrived in this world; warm, wet and smelling so sweet, all squealing joyfully and so cute!
Boy was it a long night. I was so exhausted but already it feels the wait was worth it.
I am now the proud mum of five sons and two daughters.
They’re already keeping me awake, making constant demands for nursing but that’s okay, besides I'm being well fed and cared for by my humans.
When these puppies of mine are a little more independent they will go to homes hopefully to be raised as pest detection dogs. One will stay with me but the hard part is deciding who; I’ll make this decision with mixed emotions and look forward to having it join me on the job out in the Hauraki Gulf helping keep our island pest free.
And I’ll be so proud of them all when I see them out as part of a conservation team.
