Seven-month-old Neapolitan Mastiff cross Jay-Jay Feeney is one of four dogs up for adoption at the Auckland Council Manukau Animal Shelter.

Jay-Jay Feeney doesn’t know if she’s flattered or offended after having a dog named after her.

“Honestly, I think it’s so funny… just hilarious,” the More FM radio personality laughs.

Jay-Jay, a seven-month-old Neapolitan Mastiff cross, is one of four dogs up for adoption at the Auckland Council Manukau Animal Shelter – alongside Suzy Cato, Pippa Wetzell and Maggie Barry.

“Each month the staff choose a different theme and this month we wanted to name dogs after well-known radio and television presenters,” shelter Manager Alex Rodwell-Smith says.

Alex says previous themes have included Disney, the Muppets and The Lord of the Rings.

“It’s a bit of fun,” she says.

More FM radio host Jay-Jay Feeney.

Host of More FM’s drive show, Jay-Jay was alerted to the Auckland Council Adoptable Animals Facebook post on Thursday.

Giggling uncontrollably, the radio veteran took to social media sharing the post on her Instagram.

“I am literally wetting myself laughing,” she tells her followers.

“I’m not sure… should I be flattered or offended?"

Alex says the pup was bought to the shelter on June 7 after she was found roaming the streets in Pukekohe.

“She’s so beautiful but she just looked so sad when she first came in.

“About the same time Jay-Jay had shared a really sad post on social media about breaking up with her boyfriend… so I thought it would cheer her up a bit.”

With more dogs coming up for adoption next week, Alex says shelter staff have agreed to name a male dog after Jay-Jay’s FM co-host Paul Flynn (Flynny).
