The health and wellbeing of community, environment and the local economy is the focus of Howick Local Board’s draft plan for the next three years. The plan is now open for consultation and the board is seeking your input to make sure they’ve got it right.

Howick Local Board Chair Adele White says the draft plan will direct our actions over the next three years, so it is important to make sure it is catering to the needs of our communities.

“Our community told us during the initial consultation what improvements they want in the local board area which helped us draft this plan and key outcomes. But a lot has changed since then.

“Now more than ever, we need to know from our if they think this plan will deliver on their expectations.

The proposed key outcomes in Howick Local Board plan are:

  • People in our communities feel safe, engaged and connected
  • Well-planned public spaces that support active, healthy and sustainable lifestyles
  • Heritage, local arts and cultural diversity are valued
  • Our natural environment is protected, restored and enhanced
  • A prosperous local economy supporting business growth and opportunity
  • Effective and accessible transport choices

Ms White says that the impacts of COVID-19 will be seen in the near future and may affect some of the projects but the public’s input will help prioritise what’s important.

“It is still unclear at this time what the impacts of COVID-19 will mean for our communities and the local board’s ability to deliver on your expectations over the next three years.

“We will have to reprioritise expenditure as a result of reduced budgets. But we remain committed to the core outcomes that are important to you.

“We no want you to tell us if we are on the right path by giving your input on our draft plan.”
