New director appointed at Ports of Auckland Limited

Auckland Council has appointed Jan Dawson CNZM to the board of Ports of Auckland Limited.

Mayor Phil Goff says, “I am pleased to announce that Jan Dawson has been appointed to the board of Ports of Auckland.

“Jan comes to the board with a wealth of leadership and governance experience including recently as Chair of Westpac New Zealand Limited and Deputy Chair of Air New Zealand Limited.

“Her experience and skillset will be invaluable to the Port as it continues to respond the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis and its effects on global shipping.

“Jan will also play an important role in the ongoing implementation of the recommendations of the independent Health and Safety Review, which will help to make the Port safer for its employees. I look forward to working with her.”

Deputy Mayor Bill Cashmore says, “It’s a privilege to welcome Jan to the board of Ports of Auckland. She is a high-calibre appointee whose skills and experience will add significant value to the board.”

Auckland Council is the sole shareholder of Ports of Auckland Limited.

About Jan Dawson CNZM, BCom, FCA (ICANZ), FInstD

Jan is an independent director with appointments to a number of New Zealand companies.
She is currently Chair of Westpac New Zealand Limited, Deputy Chair of Air New Zealand Limited, and a director of Meridian Energy Limited and AIG Insurance New Zealand Limited. Her term on Westpac New Zealand and Air New Zealand ends in October 2021.

Jan is on the Council for the University of Auckland and the Capital Investment Committee of the Ministry of Health. Jan chairs the Audit Committee and Risk Committee and Remuneration Committee for a number of these entities.

She was the Chair and Chief Executive for KPMG New Zealand for five years until 2011, following a career spanning 30 years specialising in audit and accounting services in the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand.

Her previous board appointments include Beca Limited and Goodman Fielder Ltd.

She was elected as a Vice President of World Sailing President for the four years ending in November 2020 and the President and Board Chair of Yachting New Zealand for six years to October 2013.
