Waitākere Ranges Local Board has thanked several health and community organisations for their outstanding work supporting the community during the ongoing COVID-19 response.

At its February meeting, the board formally recognised the wide range of organisations providing support that includes food provision, financial assistance, help with transport, accommodation, students studying at home and helping younger families.

They also recognised the local organisations that have been instrumental in helping achieve high rates of vaccination across the wider Auckland region and their continuing support.

Debt of gratitude

Waitākere Ranges Local Board Chair, Saffron Toms, says that the efforts of the many groups and individuals who continue to play a role in the response to the pandemic should be acknowledged.

“We owe these organisations and individuals a real debt of gratitude,” she says.

“As the pandemic continues and the Omicron outbreak continues to grow, we are aware that the community will be asked to stretch even further to meet the needs of people having to isolate at home, often dealing with reduced or no income, in less-than-ideal conditions.
“We have all felt the effects of the pandemic, and all board members have seen examples of incredible work being done to help and support people in need.

“It’s been an exhausting task and we know it isn’t over yet. But the board wish to acknowledge and wholeheartedly thank everyone, be it an organisation or individual for the hard work, dedication and determination to help the many people who have needed it during this time.”

The board wishes to formally thank the following:

  • The Fono and Pacific Collective
  • Te Whānau o Waipareira
  • Hoani Waititi Marae and the Maori Leadership group
