In a neighbourhood that has experienced significant disruption in recent years due to the northern corridor improvements, Chair Lisa Whyte is pleased with the new appearance of Meadowood House.
“Our Unsworth Heights community has borne the brunt of the motorway project, and especially the night works, for a road corridor which will benefit all of Auckland.
“Now, we have given our popular and heavily used community asset, Meadowood House, a facelift. Just down the road at Rook Reserve, are new park amenities delivered by Waka Kotahi / NZTA.
These are great enhancements for residents to enjoy after years of roadworks outside their homes.
“It is a testament to our community’s patience and everyone’s hard work that the improvements are in keeping with Meadowood’s special character and community feel.”
Playgroups, fitness, religious, special interest, after school and new migrant groups all use the facility.
Manager Leona Page is delighted that several nationalities are comfortable using the house. Many groups have used Meadowood for decades and behind the house is the community creche operating since 1998.
“The community creche provides exceptional opportunities for tamariki and whānau are very welcome to pop in.
“The Armenian Society of New Zealand has been meeting for more than 20 years and in 2018 gifted the Alphabet Stone that stands near the front door. Some groups have been making use of Meadowood for a quarter of a century.”
The house can host up to 80 people and is booked for fashion shows, birthday parties, graduations, and family gatherings. Groups can choose from four different size rooms, each with a heat pump and blinds.
The house also has a kitchen, covered deck and separate fenced play area.
The renovation features full exterior and interior painting, extensive roof repairs, new floors and underfloor insulation, refurbished and accessible toilets, LED lighting and a new kitchen.
