For kids and adults alike, this is an opportunity to think sustainably about what you buy and why. Kids get to be creative makers and think about the way circular economies could work by trialing making and selling their crafts locally from reusable materials.

Heather Lyall from The Creative Kids Collective says the market’s success is down to the event being run exclusively by kids with a strong sustainability focus. This is aligned with the Albert-Eden local board’s commitment to support sustainable lifestyles, and which is why they support it with funding.

“It’s run for kids, by kids and is an opportunity for them to be self-directed and think about how local economies can work in harmony with people and the planet,” says organizer Heather Lyall, Director of The Creative Kids Collective. “It is also super fun and we all just love it”.

The Creative Kids Collective has run the Kids Only Market for the last four years alongside the Point Chevalier Community Centre who initially started the Kids Only Market concept.

“This is a great example of working in partnership with passionate organisations over time as a meaningful initiative evolves,” says local board Chairperson Margi Watson.

The Kids Only Market is held four times a year in Albert-Eden. It‘s a vibrant market with over 60 stalls and over 500 customers through the door! It is the perfect place to make some treasures to sell or barter and to bring your toys to keep them in circulation.

The next market will be held on 24 September.
