Candidates confirmed for Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board by-election

Nominations for Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board by-election have now closed.

Four eligible candidates have put their hands up to fill the vacant seat on the Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board:

  • CAINE, Laura
  • DAVIES, Sydney (Independent)
  • MELLARS, John Russell
  • SHARP, Bella (Independent)

Postal voting will open Thursday 26 January 2023 and close at 12 noon, Friday 17 February.

Voting documents will be delivered from Thursday 26 January to enrolled voters in the Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board area.

Completed votes can be dropped in the vote box at the Aotea / Great Barrier Island Service Centre, 75 Hector Sanderson Road, Claris.

“The people who are eligible to vote on Aotea / Great Barrier have shown a lot of commitment to exercising their vote in previous elections, so we are hoping for a great turnout again when voting opens in the new year,” says Rose Leonard, Auckland Council’s Manager Governance Services.

“If you’re wondering what difference your vote makes, it’s your chance to have a say in who is on the local board and make sure it really represents the diversity of people who live on Aotea.”

The successfully elected candidate will be declared elected after 12pm on Friday 17 February and inaugurated at the 28 February 2023 board meeting.
