At the May 2023 business meeting, Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board approved 30 applications from organisations for operational costs that help deliver benefits for the community.

Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board Chair, Maria Meredith is happy with the board’s decisions for the funding round. “It’s a good feeling to be able to give back and help where we can so groups can continue to serve the rest of the community,” Chair Meredith says.

More than $340,000 of grants funding was requested in this round. With that figure far exceeding the available budget, some applications were declined, and others were partly funded.

Successful applicants include Pakuranga Counselling Centre to subsidise one-on-one counselling sessions for residents of Maungakiekie-Tāmaki; Glen Innes Playcentre to contribute towards their deck rebuild; Everybody Eats for costs to run pay-as-you-feel community restaurants in Glen Innes and Onehunga; and Road Safety Education to provide additional support for young Maungakiekie-Tāmaki drivers.
