It is time to hear if residents think that a three-year plan, just released for consultation by the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board, is right for their community.
The board’s draft plan will guide local board decision-making in Hibiscus and Bays over the next three years on things like parks and playgrounds, community funding and group support, as well as events and programmes.
It’s easy for residents to give feedback, just fill out the simple online form at akhaveyoursay.govt.nz/localboardplans by 14 August.
Chair Gary Brown says it’s more important than ever for residents to speak up about the future of their community.
“We have some tough calls to make in the future about investment, especially around our coastlines and areas prone to flooding.
“We would also like your thoughts on some big aspirations around the environment and transport.
“Now, it’s time to tell us what you think about our plan and approach, which balances a strong vision with cost effective achievability.”
The plan reflects community aspirations and needs which are included in four key areas – people, environment, community and places/ economy. Key objectives and the initiatives that the board wants to see delivered are listed under each area.
Brown says the plan also includes priorities that residents raised with board members that are important for community life but are not decisions for the local board to make.
“We know that commuting is tough, and congestion is inefficient. Also, how hard it is to fit in more new roads. We are constantly advocating for people reliant on public transport.
“Our commitment is to represent you wherever we can, and these advocacy priorities are outlined throughout the plan.
“Now, we hope you will talk to our local board members and tell us if we have got this plan right.”
Ways to have your say
There are a range of ways that Hibiscus and Bays residents can have their say, whether it’s submitting a form online or attending an event.
For those who value in-person conservations, want to find out more about the plan from board members and give feedback, there are drop in events taking place in Browns Bay and Ōrewa.
The first drop in takes place on Tuesday 25 July, 2pm-4pm at Ōrewa Library, 12 Moana Avenue, Ōrewa followed by the second event on Tuesday 1 August, 11.30am-12.30pm at the Local Board Office, 2 Glen Road, Browns Bay.
Another way to give feedback and view the plan, is online at akhaveyoursay.co.nz/localboardplans website. Here people can download and read a copy of the 2023 Draft Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Plan and fill out a simple online form.
The plan can also be viewed at a local library, and people can pick up a submission form.
Feedback must be received before consultation closes at 4pm on Monday 14 August.
