Have Your Say KLB

Kaipātiki Local Board’s draft plan is now open for consultation, and they are calling on you to share your thoughts on their key priorities to make sure they are heading in the right direction.

Board Chair John Gillon wants to hear from as many of people as possible on the plan’s key priorities, so the board knows they are doing right by Kaipātiki.

“Over the last six months we’ve held a hui with North Shore Māori and talked with local individuals and organisations to hear what’s important to them. So let us know if what we’ve put into our draft plan is right. By having your say on what the board should be focusing on and investing in on your behalf, we can achieve great things for Kaipātiki.”

The board has developed five priorities that will help provide guidance on the decisions they make over the next three years: Belonging and wellbeing, Environment, Places and spaces, Transport and connections, and Opportunity and prosperity.

Take a look at the first two priorities and what they mean to your area.

Priority 1: Belonging and wellbeing

The board is committed to building stronger relationships with local iwi and mātāwaka to ensure that Māori identity, culture and language are incorporated in the board’s programmes, services, and facilities.

Kaipātiki has a great tradition of community led programmes and initiatives and this will continue with increased focus on our diverse ethnic communities. The board also plans to reinvigorate the Kaipātiki Youth Council to make sure the voices of our younger residents are incorporated into our planning and decision-making.

Priority 2: Environment

Community feedback has consistently stressed the importance of protecting Kaipātiki’s natural environment and the board has answered this call with consistent investment in initiatives like the just completed Wai Manawa/ Little Shoal Bay Shoreline Adaptation Plan and the recent decisions to allocate funds to kauri dieback track upgrades in Birkenhead War Memorial Park.

With the recent cuts suggested by the draft Annual Budget 2023/2024 threatening to undo some this hard work, the board wants to investigate securing funding for our environment through a local targeted rate and are keen to hear the community’s thoughts on this idea. Is this something you want the board to look into? Let us know what you think.
