Devonport-Takapuna Local board’s draft plan is now open for consultation, and they need your input on their key priorities to make sure they are on the right track.

Board Chair Toni van Tonder encourages everyone to take part in the consultation, so the board knows they are focusing on the things that matter to people on the shore.

“Many of you have already contributed to the draft plan we have developed by sharing your knowledge and aspirations for the area. So please continue that great work by reviewing the draft and letting us know if we are on the right track”.

The board has identified five priorities that will help steer their decision-making for the next three years: Our people, Our environment, Our Community, Our Places and Our economy.

Take a look at the first three priorities and what they mean to your area.

Priority 1: Our people

The demographics of the shore are changing, and the board is committed to engaging with all corners of our community including youth, ethnic communities, people living with disabilities, rainbow communities and older residents. The board’s support of the Younite Youth Board, establishment of two Community Activator roles, regular cross-cultural networking events and partnerships with mana whenua are just part of the board’s plan to create resilient, connected communities here on the shore.

Priority 2: Our environment

Our community has made it clear in recent consultation that the environment and clean water are some of their biggest priorities. The board plans to meet that demand with a range of initiatives, such as working alongside the Kaipātiki Local Board to improve water quality in the Wairau estuary and supporting community led environmental groups to tackle invasive plant and animal pests in our area.

Priority 3 - Our community

The board wants everyone in our community to have access to the best services and facilities possible. With budgets tight, the board plans to make the most of existing assets to deliver facilities and spaces that are multi-use and support our growing population at minimum cost, whether it’s selling underperforming buildings to fund new projects, or partnering with local organisations to share under-used spaces.
