Locals who regularly visit Michaels Avenue Reserve in Ellerslie will have noticed some recent improvements to the park.
“It was fantastic to be able to host the FIFA WWC Argentina team in our local area, and we’re pleased that the most recent stage of the Michael Ave Reserve renewals was completed in time to welcome them,” says Ōrākei Local Board chair Scott Milne.
“Now the community not only has these upgrades to enjoy, but also FIFA’s contributions to the Ellerslie Football Club and the development of the training fields.”
Upgrades funded by the Ōrākei Local Board include painting and repairs to the leisure centre and early childhood centre buildings, fresh concrete paths and railings, updated signage, new floodlights, a makeover to the wetlands viewing platform, and a road and carpark renewal.
As part of the reserve enhancement, all of the equipment on the fitness trail has been repainted, and an installation of colourfully designed turf is home to a play and picnic area.
These upgrades were delivered by the Parks & Community Facilities team as part of the board’s standard renewals programme, working from a concept developed in 2016. Some of the works were brought forward slightly to coincide with the World Cup.
Additional renewals at Michaels Avenue Reserve are scheduled to take place over the next couple of years.
