Major cost-savings to Manurewa Local Board’s Te Mahia Station access upgrade mean more transport related projects can be scheduled.
Manurewa had allocated $1.7 million of this term’s Transport Capital Fund budget to complete amenity upgrades at Te Mahia, and scaling back the project meant a $267,328 cost saving.
Board chair Glenn Murphy says that has left the fund with a remaining budget of almost $1.2million that can be allocated to new projects.
“That’s great news for local residents because it means we are able to fund some significant projects, including $630,00 for awning work on Manurewa Station.”
“We’ll also have up to $315,000 available for further speed calming measures, around $200,000 for improvements at Riverton Drive and Porchester Road, and still have some budget to improve driver signage using digital feedback signs and real time display boards.”
The Transport Capital Fund is an AT fund established in 2012 to allow local boards to deliver small projects in their areas that would not normally be prioritised.
Workshops to gather suggestions for projects began early this year, with ideas put forward by members of the public and local schools.
