Howick spreads grants funds widely

More than $300,000 was sought by more than 30 groups from Howick Local Board’s grants programme.

Board chair Damian Light says that reflects how hard organisations are finding it to secure funding to support the community work they do.

“That kind of call on our funds simply can not be met, so good groups have missed out altogether and others have received less than they asked for as we have sought to stretch what we have as far as possible.
“On top of that we had more than half a million dollars sought under our multi-board funding round, where organisations and groups that might not be based in a board area, but which operate within it, can seek funding from more than one board.”
