Final call for submissions on Auckland’s Long-term Plan
Submissions close this Thursday, March 28, for Auckland Council’s Long-term Plan 2024-2034 proposals and Aucklanders are urged to have their say.
Auckland Council chief executive Phil Wilson says this year’s Long-term Plan presents multiple options for consultation – a central proposal and options to do more, or do less.
Public consultation opened on February 28 and to date council has received 8400 submissions.
“Your opinion matters. We really encourage Aucklanders to take the next few days to look at the proposal and give us your feedback – this 10-year plan will shape our region’s future and we want to hear from as many people and groups as possible,” says Phil.
“There are a number of key proposals on the table and it’s important we hear what the public think about them. These include a $13.4 billion investment into Auckland Transport to make public transport faster, more reliable and easier to use; and strengthening Auckland’s resilience to flooding with more than $1 billion of investment.”
The central proposal provides for a wide range of services– from transport, drinking water and stormwater, to parks and community, city and local development, environmental management and economic development.
It also suggests establishing an Auckland Future Fund that would create a more diverse set of investments that can both provide an income to pay for some council services, and be used to manage future challenges like extreme weather and environmental challenges.

Feedback must be received by March 28. Public feedback will be considered by the Governing Body and local boards, before the Governing Body adopts the final plan in June 2024.
The final Long-term Plan will be available on aucklandcouncil.govt.nz.
