Excitement abounds among community groups, providers, schools, businesses, and organisations eager to receive a helping hand through the latest round of grants.

Funding applications for Ōtara-Papatoetoe board’s 2024/2025 grants programme is open and closes 9 August 2024. These grants are for projects or initiatives up to $2000. Individuals and groups are encouraged to submit their applications.

Board chair Apulu Reece Autagavaia comments, “All our grants aim to provide contestable community grants to local communities. We are proud to work alongside our providers, community groups, faith-based organisations, schools, and businesses.

If you or someone you know has a fantastic project or initiative in need of financial support, seize this opportunity and apply! Quick response is now open, local grants opens on 19 August and Excellence Award is open all year.

“This board is focused on partnering with our providers and advocating for our local community to facilitate meaningful outcomes and changes for our area. In the last year, we’re proud to have helped 91 groups with a total of $340,000, and we’re looking forward to continuing this work.”

The local grants will support programmes or projects that meet one or more of the boards outcomes:

  • targeted at growing a confident and sustainable local economy

  • building well connected, engaged and active communities

  • protecting our environment and heritage for future generations

  • celebrating our unique tangata whenua and pacific identities

  • opportunities for our children and young people to grow and succeed, and thrive and belong in safe, healthy communities.

Apulu adds that higher priority is based on projects or activities that align to healthy environment principles          .

“We prioritise applications that align to the healthy environment principles like promoting safe neighbourhoods, active living and events in family friendly places, positive outcomes for mana whenua, and reducing and addressing the impact of climate change all of which we outline this in our local board plan – and our people are the best to be empowered to deliver these activations across our area,” says Apulu.
