Fancy a summer stroll? In the Ōrākei area you’re spoilt for choice. To give you some inspiration, we’ve asked local board members to share their favourite spots.
Angus McPhee has been on the board for over two years, and is currently the portfolio lead for parks and community facilities.
He tells us why Madills Farm Recreation Reserve on Baddeley Avenue in Kohimarama is worth a visit.
What do you like about it?
It’s a great open space with plenty of shade cover and an enjoyable 20-minute loop walk. This can also be done on a bike, ideal for learner riders.
Who would you recommend it to?
Everyone! There are playgrounds for pre-schoolers and bigger tamariki, a relatively flat pathway which would suit most walking abilities, and areas to walk your furrier family members.*
What amenities does it have?
As well as playgrounds, there are fantastic sports facilities. The sports fields are specifically designed for cricket and touch rugby. There are also toilets, changing rooms, picnic tables and a drinking fountain.
Can you tell us a memory you have from this park?
Many a weekend being a parent spectator while my kids played sports.
What would you recommend visitors take to the park with them?
Good walking shoes, sun protection, and a ball to kick around if that’s your sort of thing.
*Local dog access rules for Madills Farm are currently under review. Read more about the proposed changes and let us know what you think before 23 February 2025.
