Help shape your future hangout spots

Community hang out spot

What should your next go-to spot look like? East Aucklanders are encouraged to take part and decide.

What’s happening?

The Howick Local Board is planning two new neighbourhood reserves at 148 Thomas Road and 41 Tir Conaill Avenue – just a 10-minute walk apart. These green spaces will be developed side by side to bring much-needed recreational areas in one of Flatbush’s fastest-growing areas with lots of new homes and apartments.

Right now, both spaces are underused open lawns. With no small parks within 10 minutes of Thomas Road – and only two near Tir Conaill Ave – these new reserves will help fill that gap. Each site has great road access and sits next to lush stormwater reserves with established planting.

But before the local board begins designing, the local board is keen to hear from the community.

Board chair Damian Light says, “We know parks and playgrounds are important to our community, and we need to adapt to our growing population. We want to make sure we’re building what you need so please give us your thoughts and ideas.”

The proposal includes fun play zones, active recreation spaces, and open areas where people can enjoy casual sports or just kick a ball around.
