  • The Puketāpapa Local Board had adopted its 25/26 agreement and allocated $18.7m for the financial year.
  • Key priorities include the environment, improving community facilities as well as local parks and reserves.
  • Some of the investment includes more facilities for Taurangi, a neighbourhood park at 3-7 Howell Crescent and next steps for the Monte Cecilia playground and masterplan.

New playgrounds, sports changing rooms and facilities, greenhouse gas reductions, and critical facility upgrades are key projects that feature in the Puketāpapa Local Board’s plans for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Adopted by the board in June, the local board agreement sets out a total investment of $18.7 million and the key funding priorities for the financial year 2025-2026.

Fairer funding unlocks more resources

Puketāpapa Local Board will receive an additional $2.4 million operating expenditure and $3.1 million capital expenditure from fairer funding for 2025/2026.

Fairer funding provides an additional $35 million of operating funding and $33 million of capital funding to be allocated to eligible local boards in 2025/2026.

Chair Ella Kumar says the additional funds allow for the necessary maintenance required for facility management.

“We’ll have the ability to keep our operating costs going for the key facilities that are well-used by the community, and there’s also scope for additional new projects, which might involve key safety upgrades or other critical investment areas.
“I’m really excited about our work programme as we’ve got a great mix of projects. There are new developments planned for Monte Cecilia Park and Howell Crescent, along with key upgrades to the popular Waikōwhai coastal tracks and Lovelock track at the Mt Roskill War Memorial Park.

Key projects include:

  • 3-7 Howell Crescent Mount Roskill - develop new neighbourhood park to cater for new and future residents of the housing programme.
  • Monte Cecilia Park - development of the playground, including detailed design and resource consents.
  • Mt Roskill War Memorial Park - renew the surface of the Lovelock running track
  • Pah Homestead - renew the historic flooring, stairs and air control system.
  • Taurangi - develop sports changing rooms and toilets
  • Waikōwhai Coast walking tracks – continue the physical works upgrades
  • Wesley Community Centre – engage with the community to determine the scope of an upgraded playground.
  • Cameron Pool & Leisure Centre - greenhouse gas reduction initiative will replace the existing gas boiler system with a more efficient option.

The board’s agreement will soon be online on Auckland Council's website.
