Snip Of Concept Plan
  • Upgrades to Oranga’s Fergusson Domain will start from the first quarter of 2026.
  • The longer-term upgrades also include a new community garden space, new playground and the refurbishment of the Oranga Community Centre.
  • Fergusson Hall is also proposed to be removed, to address the duplication of community hall facilities.

Oranga’s Fergusson Domain is set for a suite of changes – following the adoption of the masterplan and community consultation. The local board has given the green tick to adopt the concept plan, this follows the consultation earlier this year, with the domain now set for a range of upgrades to get underway from 2026.

Auckland Council Manager Area Operations Marcel Morgan says it’s an exciting time ahead for Oranga.

“The Fergusson Domain Masterplan is set to transform this vital green space, ensuring it remains a central and adaptable resource for Oranga's evolving community. With a growing community in Oranga, open spaces like Fergusson Domain are precious for the Oranga community.

“Complementing this, we also see the Oranga Community Centre as comfortable and versatile indoor space for gathering, learning and connecting. This integrated approach means the concept plan provides a strategic direction to future-proof these important public spaces, ensuring they continue to meet the community's needs for generations to come.

Why is Fergusson Domain changing?

The new concept plan for Fergusson Domain aims to meet the changes in Oranga, including new housing developments and a rapidly growing community.

The proposal to remove Fergusson Hall will address the duplication of community hall facilities within the domain, and to free up valuable open space, with 47 per cent of submitters supporting its removal.

What’s planned for Fergusson Domain

  • Establishing a community garden space.
  • Renewal and enhancement of the playground
  • Refurbishment of the Oranga Community Centre, reconfigured to expand the park and meet the changing needs of the community with a larger bookable venue.

  • Proposed one-kilometre loop path, with distance markers, along existing pathways
  • A gathering and rest area at the entrance to Fergusson Domain from Olea
