Get ready to drop into some gnarly moves at Onehunga Bay Reserve when the new flow bowl drops in April.

The new bowl will provide skateboarders, scooter riders, roller skaters and any wheel-based enthusiasts a new location to connect and enjoy.

Maungakiekie Tāmaki Local Board Chair Debbie Burrows says it’s great to have the work underway.

“It’s exciting to have another investment into Onehunga Bay Reserve with the new flow bowl arriving in a few months time. Across Tāmaki Makaurau there are limited, high-quality skating facilities, and it’s great to offer our youth a place where they can connect with others and be active.
“We had scheduled to have the flow bowl completed in the second half of 2025, but due to funding changes it’s been pushed out to 2026, I’m sure it will be worth the wait for Onehunga.”

Construction started in late January 2026, with a completion date of late April 2026.

Flow state vibes

The new bowl features a pump bump, channel for beginners to roll down instead of dropping in, new shaded area, seating areas, drinking fountain and other features.

It’s designed to cater for a range of users at all levels of experience, with a design to suit different ages and stages of wheel-based enthusiasts.

The current vert ramp offers limited skating options, and is more accessible for experienced skaters.

The bowl is also another example of the board following its 2024 adoption of the wheeled play network study, which promoted future investment into play, such as scootering, skating, biking and more.
