One of Auckland’s busiest roads will be easier to safely get cross, thanks to funding from the Puketāpapa Local Board.

A new signalised pedestrian crossing will be installed at 948 Dominion Road, which is a busy area with shops, including the popular La Voie Francaise bakery.

Everyday people walk across the road to the bakery and shops, crossing one of Auckland’s busiest roads, without use of a safe pedestrian crossing.

Puketāpapa Local Board chair Roseanne Hay says safety always comes first for the community.

“More than 32,000 people travel on Dominion Road every day, and there’s up to 29 different buses carrying 7,500 people daily on the road. We need safer crossings for our community so they can move around easily.”
“To ensure people can move safely across this section of Dominion Road, which has a number of shops, it’s good news we’re funding this important pedestrian link so people and transport, can operate in a safe environment for everyone.”

As part of the new crossing to be installed there will be six parking spaces removed on Dominion Road, however, this will be offset with the addition of 5-7 new spaces created nearby on Hazel Avenue, ensuring there are zero parking losses overall.

It’s expected the work will start in May and will be completed by mid-June depending on weather conditions.
