Community organisations across Kaipātiki are getting a boost, with the local board awarding $323,398 in its latest grants round.
The money will support a wide range of activities and organisations, from improvements to local facilities and sport to youth programmes, cultural activities and support services.
Kaipātiki Local Board chair Danielle Grant says the breadth of successful applications reflects the diversity of the area.
“The Kaipātiki Local Board is pleased to be able to spread our funding across so many community organisations within our local area, benefiting such a diverse range of activities, events and building improvements.”
Improving local facilities was a major focus, including $62,004 towards new changing rooms, showers and toilets for women and girls at Northcote Birkenhead Rugby Union and Sports Club.
The project comes as women's and girls' rugby continues to grow at the club, with females now making up 54 per cent of junior registrations.
Its premier women's team also went unbeaten this season to win the 2026 Auckland Rugby Union Division 2 championship, earning promotion to Division 1 next year.
Senior chairperson Gerard Boesley says the project is now getting closer to construction.
“This amount means that the club is now well on its way towards raising the necessary funds to enable construction work to begin. The club is aiming to commence construction work for the new facilities at the end of this rugby season.”
He says the new facilities will respond to changes happening across the sport.
“All rugby clubs are facing infrastructure constraints with the growth of the women and girls playing rugby. This growth requires dedicated resources, including changing rooms, showers and toilets to ensure gender diversity needs are recognised.”
All Saints Birkenhead Scout Group has also received $23,000 towards appliances, installation, plumbing and electrical work for a new kitchen, with cabinetry already being made.
The upgrade will replace a kitchen that has served the group for more than 25 years.
Group Scout Leader Tony Lyle says:
“This funding will allow us to replace a kitchen that has served the Group for more than 25 years with a safer, more practical space for our young people, volunteers and the many local groups and families who use the den. We’re very grateful to the Kaipātiki Local Board for investing in a community facility that will be used for years to come.”
Other recipients include Northcote Toy Library, which received $7,000 towards rent and toy storage, The Salvation Army with $7,000 for its Kai Ora cooking programme, YMCA North with $5,000 for the Kaipātiki Raise Up youth development programme, and Nepalese Cultural Centre New Zealand with $4,500 towards cultural classes.
Other facility projects supported include $64,000 towards roof renewal and solar panel reinstatement for Pest Free Kaipātiki, $45,000 towards a kitchen upgrade at Birkenhead United Association Football Club, and $8,000 towards roof and gutter improvements for Marlborough Recreational Trust.
