Māngere locals are being invited to put forward ideas that strengthen recovery, wellbeing and resilience through a new $300,000 community fund.

The fund will help bring the priorities of the new Māngere Stronger Together Recovery Plan [PDF 3.86MB] to life. Local people will also decide which initiatives receive funding through a community showcase and vote grounded in local knowledge and priorities.

Māngere Stronger Together Recovery Plan

The Māngere Stronger Together Recovery Plan marks the next stage of recovery in Māngere following the 2023 severe weather events. Developed by the Māngere Recovery Leadership Rōpū alongside residents, whānau, community organisations, faith groups, schools and community leaders, it draws on community feedback and lived experience gathered throughout the past three years.

It captures the strengths and aspirations of Māngere and provides a shared direction for recovery, resilience and collective action.

It focuses on:

  • strengthening social connection and wellbeing
  • building community leadership and capability
  • supporting education and self-advocacy
  • improving community-led emergency readiness and resilience.

“Three years on, our community is still feeling the effects of the floods. This funding will enable our commuity to take action to build our resilience – like learning more about flood risk and how to prepare ourselves,” says Pragna Patel from Te Ararata Stream Team and a member of the Māngere Recovery Leadership Rōpū.

Bring your ideas to life

Whānau, neighbours, grassroots and faith-based groups, local networks and community organisations are encouraged to put forward ideas for the Māngere Stronger Together Recovery Fund.

Ideas could bring neighbours together, support community wellbeing and leadership, help people understand and navigate important systems, or strengthen local emergency readiness.

Projects must be based in Māngere and able to be delivered by May 2027.

Expressions of interest open on Saturday 29 August and close on Sunday 20 September 2026.

The plan and fund will be launched at the Māngere Market on 29 August. People can meet members of the Māngere Recovery Leadership Rōpū, learn more about the plan and discuss their ideas for the fund.

Funding decisions made by the community

Funding decisions will be made through a participatory community process.

Eligible ideas will be presented at a Community Projects Showcase and Voting event at the Māngere Market on Saturday 10 October 2026. Applicants will share their ideas, and people at the markets will be invited to vote for the projects they most want to see funded.

The leadership rōpū says this puts local people at the centre of deciding how the fund is invested in Māngere.
