Auckland Council is taking back control of transport.

Aucklanders may have heard Auckland Council is taking back control of transport.

That means change is coming on 1 October when the elected members Aucklanders voted for, take charge of our city’s roads.

We want early wins on the board - and that’s where Aucklanders come in. Every day, you tell us about the same frustrating transport problems. Traffic backed up because parked cars block a lane. A set of traffic lights that keeps everyone waiting. Confusing road markings. A poorly designed intersection. Short stretches of road where buses and carpoolers get stuck for no good reason.

These aren't billion-dollar, gold-plated projects. They're the everyday issues that make every journey slower, more stressful and more frustrating than it needs to be. The good news?  Many of them can be fixed quickly.

The Quick Fix programme is focused on early wins. That’s identifying and delivering practical transport improvements that reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and make it easier for people to get where they need to go.

Because sometimes the biggest difference comes from fixing the small things.

What counts as a Quick Fix?

Quick Fix projects are practical changes that can be delivered quickly and make a real difference to how Auckland moves.

These include:

  • Removing or changing on-street parking where it blocks traffic flow.
  • Improving road layouts that create unnecessary congestion.
  • Optimising traffic lights to reduce delays.
  • Fixing confusing road signs or road markings that disrupt traffic.
  • Helping buses and vehicles with multiple passengers move more smoothly through traffic bottlenecks.
  • Improving intersections where turning traffic causes delays.

Small changes. Real results.

Quick Fix isn't about waiting years for major infrastructure. It's about early wins and making smart improvements that can be delivered sooner, and give Aucklanders back their time.

Know a problem that needs fixing?

If you've spotted an everyday transport issue that's slowing Auckland down, we want to hear about it. Tell us where it is and what's happening. Our team will assess whether it's suitable for a Quick Fix and whether it can be added to the programme.
