From new playgrounds and community events to protecting beaches, bush and waterways, Rodney Local Board is investing in projects designed to make a difference close to home.
This year, the local board is investing $37.7 million in local services, facilities and projects across Rodney, including $25 million for community services and activities and $12.7 million for capital projects and renewals.
The board has adopted its 2026/2027 Local Board Agreement through council’s Annual Plan and chair Guy Wishart says the board is focused on practical investments that support Rodney's towns, villages and rural communities.
“We're investing in the things that matter most to local communities, from parks and playgrounds to environmental projects and community programmes.
"We want Rodney's towns, villages and rural communities to continue being great places to live, and to protect the environment and local character that make them unique."
1. New places to climb, swing and play
Families can look forward to new and upgraded play spaces at Te Hana Reserve, supported by almost a $1 million investment, alongside improvements at Rautawhiri Park ($1.2 million), Waterloo Reserve ($3.2 million) and Muriwai Village Green ($1.7 million), creating more places for children and families to play and enjoy their local parks.
2. More of the events locals love
The board will continue investing in community-led events, programmes and activities that bring people together. This includes support for local initiatives for children, young people and whānau, as well as popular events such as Santa Parades, the Kōwhai Festival and Arts in the Ville that foster connection, pride and belonging across Rodney.
3. Looking after Rodney's beaches, bush and waterways
The board has committed $550,000 to environmental programmes this year, including community planting days, stream restoration projects and pest plant and animal control.
Support will continue for the popular Snip and Chip programme, which promotes responsible cat ownership, along with kiwi avoidance training for dogs and projects that help improve local waterways and biodiversity.
4. Making our towns and villages even better
With $360,000 allocated to local planning and development, the board will support projects that improve town centres, public spaces and community areas.
From Warkworth and Wellsford to Helensville and Kumeū, the goal is to create welcoming places where people can meet and spend time, while celebrating the unique character of each community.
5. Giving old materials a second life
The board is supporting Less Waste Warkworth to help reduce waste sent to landfill. Funding for two dedicated roles will boost material recovery, improve construction waste sorting and increase opportunities for reuse.
This investment, alongside funding for playgrounds, events, environmental projects and town centre improvements, reflects the board's focus on supporting Rodney communities.
