Papakura Business Association launches ‘Plate Up Papakura’ – South Auckland’s newest foodie festival – with support from Papakura Local Board.
Food enthusiasts across the Auckland region are invited to come celebrate two weeks of feature dishes and dining experiences in the heart of Papakura from 15th to 31st of August.
‘Plate Up’ is the fi rst festival of its kind in Papakura, spanning 14 local eateries showcasing a colourful array of local and international cuisine – including Turkish, Japanese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Nepalese, and Tex-Mex – from Papakura icons such as Broke Boy Taco, Viet Soul, Satay Noodle House, Red Earth, and The Beer Spot.
The celebration is part of a wider initiative to reinvigorate Papakura’s food scene along Great South Road, targeting diners from surrounding neighbourhoods, Central Auckland and Franklin alike by highlighting the high-calibre hospitality, entertainment, events and cultural touchpoints sitting just on their doorstep.
“Initiatives like ‘Plate Up Papakura’ are key to revitalising the regions and celebrating the incredible cultural diversity that we’re so proud of here in south Auckland,” says Papakura Local Board chair, Kelvin Hieatt.
“Papakura locals have always known there’s something special cooking out here, and it’s about time we share the best parts of our suburb with the rest of Auckland.”
Sean Yarbrough, owner and head chef at award-winning Broke Boy Taco, calls ‘Plate Up Papakura’ a ‘game-changer’ for the South Auckland food scene.
“There are so many creative, talented food vendors out here, it’s crazy. Ponsonby and Sandringham are great too, but if you want real global flavours literally in your backyard, Papakura’s the place.”
