Walking and cycling
Walking or biking is a great way to get around the city. There are a number of cycle and walking routes across Auckland that can be used for your commute to work or for fun family bike rides. Popular routes include Te Ara I Whiti - The Lightpath in the city centre and the Tamaki Drive path by the Hauraki Harbour waterfront.

Walking
Auckland is full of beautiful places to explore - from stunning coastlines and tranquil waterfalls to scenic walkways, lookout points, and forest trails. Whether you’re hiking a trail, or enjoying a relaxing stroll, there are tracks and pathways for all fitness levels.
Before heading out, make sure to check for any track closures in place to help protect our kauri trees.
These closures include:
- some forested areas in the Waitākere Ranges
- high-risk tracks in the Hūnua Ranges, and parts of the Franklin Local Board area
- high-risk tracks in the Kaipātiki Local Board area
- a few tracks on Waiheke Island.
