Getting help in an emergency or when you need urgent care
Knowing where to go and who to call can make all the difference in an emergency or when you need urgent health advice. This page provides key contacts for emergencies, non-emergency police support, urgent medical care, and emergency housing across Auckland. Whether it’s a life-threatening situation, a housing crisis, a health concern, or you’re unsure where to turn, you’ll find the right information and services here to help you and your whānau stay safe and supported.
In an emergency dial 111
If you need help from the police, the fire service, or an ambulance, dial 111 and an emergency operator will connect you to the right service. Find out more about our emergency services on the NZ Government website.
Call 105 for a police non-emergency
If you need to contact the police for a non-emergency report, call 105 (Ten-Five) or report it online via the NZ Police website.
Need health advice, not sure what to do?
Call Healthline any day or time on 0800 611 116 for free health advice, information and treatment from professional healthcare providers. You can choose to speak with a Māori clinician if you are calling between 8am and 8pm. For other free health helplines, visit the Free Health Advice on the NZ Government website.
Tip: When calling Healthline, you can ask for an interpreter in your language and NZ Relay support (for people with hearing and speech communication difficulties).
Emergency health services at hospitals
In an emergency, call 111 or go to your nearest hospital emergency department. They are open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Go directly to the front desk and ask to see the next available doctor.

Urgent care/Accident and Medical/A&E clinics
Accident and Medical clinics provide accident and urgent medical care where patients can walk-in to see a doctor, without an appointment.
Urgent housing needs
If you need housing urgently, you may qualify for emergency housing. Find out more information on the Work and Income NZ website. Family violence
If you are in danger or you think someone else is at risk, call 111.
If you are worried about your safety or the safety of someone you know, help is available. If you need to leave home because of family violence, there are safe places you can go and trained counsellors you can talk to confidentially. Go to Are You OK for information.
