English language classes and translation services
Find out where to go to improve your English. Get support to help you communicate with government agencies.
English Language classes
- you may be entitled to free or pre-purchased English language classes with a provider approved by the government. Find out what’s available near you in this directory.
- there are courses in everyday English to help with daily life, academic English for study, or business English for work. Check the providers websites, such as English Language Partners, Dynaspeak, Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT), Auckland University of Technology (AUT), Literacy Aotearoa, or Auckland Community Education.
- join lessons or conversation groups in your local area and make new friends: ask your Citizen Advice Bureau (CAB), local library, community centre or place of worship, check out Meetup (keyword “English”).
Translation services
If you have trouble communicating in English by phone, language support is available from government, Auckland Council and CAB services. When you call them, ask for an interpreter and your preferred language.
