Te Pātaka Kōrero o Te Hau Kapua – Devonport Library was one of only five public libraries worldwide to be nominated for the title of Public Library of the Year, awarded by the Danish Agency for Culture.
As well as commending the library for its design, which reflects Devonport’s built and natural environment and strong historic and cultural roots, the nomination highlights the extensive public consultation that occurred during the development.
“This nomination is a major achievement,” says North Shore Ward Councillor Chris Darby. “Public feedback was invaluable in helping to hone the vision and create a facility that has captured the imagination of Devonport residents, and indeed the wider Auckland community.”
