A question that many people ask at this time of the year is: "Why is our street pavement being resealed when it still looks in reasonable condition?"
Residents wonder why Auckland Transport spends money on resealing when there could still be a few years of life left in the pavement. I have investigated residents’ concerns and only once have I found that there isn't a justifiable reason for the reseal.
On one occasion the contractors got the wrong street and the pavement still had a number of years left before the next reseal.
A good fresh seal puts a waterproof membrane over the surface and ensures that water does not leak into the road's foundations. It is essential that this resealing is done on a programmed basis to maintain our roads to a high standard of serviceability.
