This week, enabling work will begin on the Mt Albert Town Centre upgrade.
The Albert-Eden Local Board, working with Auckland Council and Auckland Transport, is investing $6.5 million into the upgrade, which will greatly enhance the town centre.
Improvements to the area include wider footpaths, cycle lanes, street furniture, outside seating, signage upgrades and a new public space.
Many benefits for residents
Board Chair Peter Haynes is pleased the project is about to start.
“Mt Albert residents are long overdue an upgrade to their town centre.
"We’ve already seen the positive difference the pedestrian link bridge has had on the area, and once the overall project is complete residents will get to enjoy the many benefits of the improved town centre.”
New look and feel
The new amenities will provide a major investment into the growing area and will enable new dining opportunities, as well as a massively improved community hub.
The upgrade is expected to be completed in August 2017, with the major works starting in January 2017.
