Five tips for setting your summer fitness goals

Launch into summer with Auckland Council Pools and Leisure

Published: 2 December 2019

Auckland Council Pools and Leisure have your summer sorted to get you working towards your personal best.

Achieving a personal best gives you that extra boost in energy and it is one of the best ways to motivate yourself when it comes to exercising.

Whether it’s running for an extra minute on the treadmill, trying a new group fitness class or getting back into swimming or having more energy to keep up with the kids; whatever we attempt to do can be rewarding and fun.

And with the latest offer from Auckland Council Pools and Leisure, now is the perfect time to dust off the exercise gear and start working towards your own PB.

Here are some tips to achieving that:

  1. Set small goals

Make a list of your goals and break them down into small achievable steps. Having a plan helps you have clarity on what you want to achieve and what support you might need/

  1. Do something you enjoy

As the saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun. If you do something that you enjoy, you are more likely to stick at it.

  1. Workout with a buddy

Exercising with a buddy or as part of a group will enhance your motivation to get active and achieve your fitness goals.

“Working out together helps you have more fun, commitment, motivation and resilience, which ultimately helps you to achieve better results,” says Auckland Council Leisure fitness lead Ritua Ali’iva’a.

  1. Have a good workout playlist

Listening to music during exercise can lead to a better workout. It releases feel-good emotions to boost your mood, combat fatigue and help you push yourself harder.

  1. Stay hydrated

Drink plenty of water every day. When you are exercising, drink before, during and after your workout.
