A plan of action that identifies opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase resilience to climate change in the Henderson-Massey Local Board area has been approved.
The ‘Henderson-Massey Local Climate Action Plan: Whakarauora Āhuarangi’ builds on the board’s existing environment and sustainability initiatives and focuses on eight action priority areas from Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate Plan.
For each area, the plan includes targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, opportunities to amplify existing initiatives, and actions suggested through consultation with community stakeholders.
The board also plans to fund a Climate Action Activator to help implement the plan.
A plan for the community
Vanessa Neeson, Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair says the plan is for the whole community, and the board will play its part.
“It’s so important to have a plan like this so everyone can play their part in reducing emissions.
“The board will fund, advocate, lead, partner, promote and monitor initiatives that will achieve that goal.
“Everyone knows that the west has always been at the heart of sustainability and environmental efforts, and it’s fantastic to see that legacy living on through this plan.
“We will play our role and look to encourage and help as many people as we can to make the changes and take part in the projects that will make a difference, and we know our communities will step up and play their part too.”
