Wānaka

He’s absolutely convinced he’s lap sized, you just have to ignore the fact that half of him is still on the floor 😌🐾

About Wānaka

  • Huntaway, Cross
  • Male
  • Good with children
  • 1 year and 3 months
  • Can live with other dogs
  • Pukekohe Adoption and Education Centre

Personality:

Wānaka is a big, energetic cuddle bug who thinks he is still a puppy! A lovely boy through and through, he is every bit the classic Huntaway. Loyal, people focused, and happiest when he has a job to do or someone by his side.

Wanaka recently spent a few days in a home with one of our team, and it has given us a great insight into how he settles outside of the shelter. While he can show a little separation anxiety at first, with clear boundaries and the use of a crate, he surprised us in the best way and settled in really well.

Tamariki – 10+ as he really is a big puppy and is still learning manners.
Cats – No ctas.

Kūri – He can be a bit rude in meetings as he just wants to say hi but he matches other dogs energy well.
Stock/poultry – Not tested.
Size – Currently 25kgs and is fully grown.

Ideal home:

Wānaka is looking for a home that understands the huntaway/working breed and is committed to building his confidence and providing ongoing socialisation.

We are looking for an active home that enjoys mixing walks with brain games as he’s a smart cookie who we think will learn new tricks quickly and have a lot of fun doing it. He is the kind of dog who will thrive with structure, consistency, and an owner who understands his breed and can give him both mental and physical outlets.

In return, you will get a devoted companion who just wants to be part of your world.

Could your whāre be the one for a big, gentle baby looking for his people?
