This forum will inspire New Zealand music kōrero in the Strand Arcade and a live podcast will feature prominent Tangata Moana songwriters Teremoana Rapley and Rubi Du, facilitated by Lucky Lance of Team Dynamite and Sky Pirates fame alongside DJ and Auckland Council arts programmer Gene Rivers. Part of New Zealand Music Month.
Teremoana Rapley has been in the music business a long time — first as a teenage rapper in the hip-hop band Upper Hutt Posse, and then singing vocals in te reo for Moana and the Moahunters. In 2022 she launched her first album (Daughter of a Housegirl) and had her first solo exhibition at Tautai Pacific Art Gallery in Auckland.
Well-known Auckland reggae artist Rubi Du is a queen of the Aotearoa roots and dancehall scene with her ability as a vocalist and emcee and her electrifying live performances. Formerly known as SilvaMC, her Caribbean heritage and Rastafarian-influenced childhood have helped shape her unique and unforgettable style, while staying true to her Kiwi roots. Boasting heavy basslines and melodic vocals, Rubi Du sets a high standard for South Pacific reggae and dancehall.
Lucky Lance is one third of the much-loved Team Dynamite, his lyrics conveying a unique and positive approach to HipHop. Lucky is also the brains behind the clothing brand “Sky Pirates” which is featuring in the Mids Market.
Christoph el' Truento was the beat-making brains behind Tom Scott’s @Peace, and later contributed to the Avantdale Bowling Club project. He’s spent much of the last ten years dabbling in other genres like dub, footwork and psychedelia, before a recent return to hip hop and sample collage
Gene Rivers has worked in radio work and has extensive working experience as a live performance DJ, featuring on festival lineups, international tours, boutique bars and cafesand the local club circuit. he has in experience producing music as an independent artist and soundtrack production for television. He maintains a strong network within the music industry, community based media and within Maori and Pacific communities.
