Even as many of us try to keep up with learning new digital skills and staying safe online, along comes new artificial intelligence (AI) technology changing everything again. ChatGPT and other AI tools can create writing and artwork in seconds and are rapidly affecting jobs, education, media, and more. Our relationship with books and other sources of information is likely to change, just as it did with the invention of the search engine. We have reason to be concerned but also excited about how this technology will impact humanity.

This presentation will explore what AI is, where it is heading, and how to consider the safety and ethical issues surrounding it.

About the speaker: Kara Kennedy, PhD, is an educator, researcher, and writer in the areas of science fiction, technology, and digital and AI literacy. She has authored books and articles about women in science fiction, Wikipedia and academia, and digital literacy in the arts and humanities. She has a keen interest in empowering people to learn about technology and enjoys bridging the digital divide through interesting and engaging digital skills training.

Event is from 6-7pm, with a 15 minute Q&A afterwards.
