Nau Mai Haere Mai ki
Te Ahurei Mōwaho o Tāmaki Makaurau 2024!
Welcome to the Auckland Fringe Festival 2024!

We’re back after a year’s hiatus and as we prepare for this year’s festival the excitement in our small whānau is palpable! We’re going to usher in Spring with a bang from the 1st of September and we’re gearing up for three weeks of artistic, joyous abandon.

2024 is a year of firsts for Tāmaki! From our digital presence, and new website, to making fringe events as accessible as possible for artists and audiences alike. Our whanaungatanga has grown exponentially and this year we’ll have some truly captivating performances for the kids, events that will make you laugh, think, and revel in the unique vibe that only Fringe can bring.

Auckland Fringe will be hosted at 14 performance spaces across Tāmaki this year. We have a plethora of incredible performances returning to beloved and Fringe-staple theatre venues - Basement Theatre, The Factory Theatre, TAPAC, MoveSpace, Covert Theatre, Pitt St Theatre, and Garnet Station, branching out to The Rose Centre, The Classic, Dolphin Theatre, Titirangi RSA, Ahu Bar and The Old Peoples Association.

With the support of Auckland Live, Britomart, Auckland Council, and the City Centre Targeted Rate we will unveil our first-ever community outreach kaupapa, ĀHURU MŌWAI! Our new kaupapa will bring an array of free multi-disciplinary performances activating in treasured community locations across the city centre.

At the Auckland Town Hall Concert Chambers you can experience the melodic sounds of the Whangārei Gospel Choir, inspiring readings read by the cast of NZ Refugee TV show 'Miles From Nowhere', AND formidable comedy line-ups including the incomparable talents of Angela Dravid, Bailey Poaching, Kura Turuwhenua, Courtney Dawson, Janaye Henry, Jamiane Ross, Heta Dawson, Joel Ma Carthy and more!

The City Central Library will host award-winning Australian children's entertainers, The Vegetable Plot, and The Strand Arcade will be home to several emerging multi-national storytellers. The Ellen Melville Centre will bring you Auckland Northshore Rockquest finalists Red Fever and Jesse Scott, comedy from the Femmes and Them Megashow, and Wāhine empowerment workshops from Mana Wāhine, Mana Tipua. To top it off, you'll discover some amazing musical lunchtime vibes in Tautaki Square- Britomart, aiming to encourage our wider Tāmaki community to get amongst it!

2024 is also the first year we support a worthy cause that brings light to the needs of rangatahi from decile one schools in South Auckland, Painga Project. We will be raising koha over the next couple of months and we encourage you all to follow suit, head to their website and donate directly at www.paingaproject.co.nz, or feel free to koha at our Fringe Hub in Shop 18 of The Strand Arcade.

Throw caution to the wind, embrace a little chaos, and experience cutting-edge theatre from some of our most ambitious theatre-makers. To keep on top of programme updates head to our website www.aucklandfringe.co.nz.

We’d like to thank our 2024 whanaunga, without their support we wouldn’t be here- Creative New Zealand, Auckland City Council, Auckland Live, City Centre Targeted Rate, Dotdot, Brennan Wine, Elysian Food, One Music, APRA, iTicket, Off The Hook Bar and Café, Te Pou Theatre and Taurima Vibes.
