Eye Spy – toys and tech through time (28 Sept - 13 Oct): How have toys and technology changed over time? Take a look in our Eye Spy cabinet and find out for yourself!

Museum Heist Scavenger Hunt (28 Sept - 13 Oct): There’s been a heist at the museum, we need your help! Follow the clues around the library, and find all the missing artefacts! This scavenger hunt will be ongoing throughout the school holidays, ask at the desk for your first clue.

Spaceship Display (28 Sept - 13 Oct): Design your own spaceships and dinosaurs! We will put them up to create a collaborative Time Warp mural.

Bird Talk and craft (Sunday 29th September, 2 pm to 3 pm): Conservationist and Bird Nerd Charlie Thomas joins us to talk about extinct birds of Aotearoa. Travel back to the time of Moa and Huia, and learn how we can create a bird friendly future! Then stick around to make bird bookmarks! Fun for the whole family.

Recreators Ancient Paper (Wednesday 2nd October, 2 to 4 pm): In this fun workshop, kids will learn how to make paper look old and worn using a variety of different techniques. They will use their aged paper to create their very own treasure maps, filled with symbols and codes, or old-fashioned letters, sparking their imaginations and taking them on a creative journey back in time! Limited spaces. For ages 7+, online bookings are required on Humanitix https://bit.ly/3XFQbeQ

Storytime and dress up Week 1 (Thursday 3rd October, 10 to 10:30 am): Rewind time with the librarians as we read our favourite books from our childhoods! Come along dressed as your favourite book character. Recommended for ages 5-8.

Movie Morning – Meet the Robinsons (Sunday 6th October, 11 am to 1 pm ): Lewis is a brilliant young inventor. He meets a mysterious stranger named Wilbur Robinson, who whisks Lewis away in a time machine. In the future, they meet Robinson’s whacky family – complete with singing frogs, an octopus as a butler, and a pet T-Rex. Together they team up to defeat the villainous Bowler Hat Guy in a showdown that ends with an unexpected twist of fate…

Printing Press Posters (Tuesday 8th October, 1:30 to 4 pm): Come experience a real piece of history right here in Birkenhead! In this wonderful workshop, tamariki will use a very special antique printing press to print their own Victorian style signs. Bookings are limited and fill up quickly! For ages 8+. Book now at the front desk.

Making fossils (Wednesday 9th October, 3 to 4 pm): Freeze time with fossils in this hands-on workshop! Learn to make your own fossils from clay and plaster. Bring your own object to use as a mould, or choose from the objects provided. For ages 7+, bookings required so get in quick! Enquire at the front desk to secure your place.

Storytime Week 2 (Thursday 10th October, 10 to 10:30 am): Zoom through time with the librarians as we read picture books set in the future! Recommended for ages 5-8.
