Rowena is often inspired by her Fijian heritage and in this workshop, she shares her personal connection with Masi, through passed-on tradition, culture and language to create simplified pattern or symbol that will be turned into a re-usable stamp.
You will be creating colourful washes and overlapping brush marks, layering dyes and acrylics onto card, as the backdrop for stamping your self-constructed stamps, using water-based printing inks.
The 2019 solo exhibition, Masi in my Blood, here at CEAC drew from Rowena’s Melanesian roots and examined how Masi and Masi designs were woven into contemporary practice. Create a repetitive motif and freestyle pattern of your very own.
