Sub 35 Empire Games 1950

On 4 February 1950, 40,000 people packed out Eden Park to witness the opening ceremony of the British Empire Games. The first few days of the track and field events at Eden Park were played out in glorious sunshine but on the last day, the park was drenched from downpours – and still the spectators came. Nearly 300,000 attended the various venues on the seven competitive days of the games. The only limit to crowd size was the capacity of some venues. A display of photographs, event and souvenir programmes.
