There were originally 140 holiday baches built on Rangitoto Island during 1920s to 1930s. One of the 34 that remain was restored by volunteers and opened as a museum.
Join us for a cup of tea, view the displays and hear about the people who lived, worked, holidayed and played on Rangitoto. Tramping has long been a favourite activity for visitors to Rangitoto.
On 18 October 1925 seven men held a meeting in the crater of Rangitoto and the Auckland Tramping Club was formed. They boiled the billy and celebrated with a cup of tea. Celebrate tramping at the museum with a cup of tea and view the photograph display of early tramping club expeditions.
